sew social: friends who sew

<

Last weekend, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the second annual gathering of a delightful group of sewing bloggers in London. It was such a treat to be surrounded by so many creative, warm-hearted, and inspiring women. The event last year took place in Paris, but this year it was held in the vibrant city of London, and it couldn't have been more enjoyable. I still can’t believe how quickly the time flew by—it feels like just yesterday that we were laughing and chatting over cups of tea. There's something magical about connecting with people who share your passion, and these ladies truly embody that spirit. We spent our days exploring the city, shopping for fabrics, and visiting some of London’s most iconic spots. It was a weekend filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable moments. One of the highlights of the trip was visiting Cloth House, a fabric store that left me absolutely speechless. Their selection of textiles was nothing short of extraordinary—Japanese ikats, indigo-dyed fabrics, and intricate sashiko pieces, alongside stunning linens, denims, and a carefully curated range of premium fabrics. Honestly, I could have spent hours there, and I'm already planning my next trip back to London just to explore it further. Of course, no trip to London would be complete without a visit to Liberty of London. The store is legendary for its beautiful prints and luxurious fabrics, and it didn’t disappoint. We also popped into Shaukat, which offered a completely different vibe with its eclectic mix of fabrics and unique patterns. Alongside the shopping, we made sure to take in some of London’s cultural offerings. A morning at Borough Market was a must, where we savored delicious food and drinks. We even found time to visit the V&A Museum, which is always a feast for the eyes and mind. For dinner, we headed to Arabica near Borough Market, where we enjoyed a fantastic meal together. It was a perfect end to a day full of exploration. Oh, and I couldn’t resist stopping by a local bookstore while I’m away from the U.S. for so long. My friend S loves reading on her Kindle, but I wanted to surprise her with a few physical books this time. It was a small gesture, but she loved it! Meeting everyone was an absolute joy. Here are some of the amazing women who joined us: - Gioia from Dotta Sews in Italy - Marta from Do Guincho in Portugal - An from StraightGrain in Belgium - Victoria from As It Seams in England - Olu from Needle and Ted in England - Laura from Titchy Threads in England - Annika from Näh Connection in Germany - Maartje from Huisje Boompje Boefjes in Holland - Ines from La Folie Sewing Booth in Portugal - Eva from By Eva Maria in Belgium - Maria from My Cozy Co in England - Trine from Groovybaby & Mama in Denmark - Toya from Made by Toya in England - Andreia from In a manner of Sewing in Portugal The memories we created together will stay with me forever. I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to connect with such a talented and inspiring group of individuals. And let’s not forget the generous sponsors who provided patterns and fabric for us to work with. They truly made this experience possible, and I’m eager to dive into my projects and put everything to use. As I write this, I can still feel the excitement of the weekend coursing through me. London was the perfect backdrop for such a wonderful gathering, and I can’t wait to see where our paths cross again. Until then, I’ll keep stitching away, inspired by the creativity and camaraderie of my newfound sewing family. And yes, if you’re wondering, I did manage to pick up a few treasures along the way—including some fabric that’s already whispering “project” in my ear. Stay tuned for updates on what I create next!
