creative resolutions: getting organized

<

The holiday season has come and gone, but I’m happy to say that I made it through my first Nutcracker season without a hitch. Those countless trips back and forth to the ballet school for rehearsals were exhausting, but seeing each performance come together beautifully made it all worthwhile. As the costume manager for the show, I’m thrilled to report that not a single costume was permanently ruined or misplaced. With over two hundred costumes involved, that’s definitely something to celebrate. ![Image of Nutcracker costumes](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/df86647000317fa79cfd92d1d2652235.jpg) After wrapping up the final performance, I found myself with some last-minute Christmas sewing to do. Among other projects, I completed my very first Garden Party dress. If you’ve sewn one before, let me know how it went! My daughter absolutely loved wearing her vibrant red and gold dress. With most of our holiday decor now stored away, it feels great to have our home back to its usual tidiness. I’m eager to dive back into my sewing projects for the new year. Recently, I watched the first episode of “Cousu Main, Saison 2,” the French version of The Great British Sewing Bee. Have you caught any episodes? It’s inspiring to see talented seamstresses take on various challenges. As we step into 2016, I’m determined to be more organized than ever before. For instance, I want to make better use of the sewing patterns I already own, especially since there’s a current mash-up challenge calling for creativity. To kick things off, I’ve started organizing my pattern stash on Pinterest. Creating a board with all my Oliver + S patterns has been a fantastic way to keep everything visually accessible. Science suggests that working toward goals with others increases motivation, so why not join me? Today, your task is to create a Pinterest board for the patterns you own from Oliver + S, Liesl + Co., Straight Stitch Society, and Lisette for Butterick. Here are mine: - [Oliver + S patterns I own](link) - [Liesl + Co. patterns I own](link) - [Straight Stitch Society patterns I own](link) - [Lisette for Butterick patterns I own](link) I’ve also noticed people creating boards for each individual pattern they own, offering inspiration on how to interpret them. That’s a brilliant idea! Another organizational tip: when was the last time you measured your growing child? A fresh Measurement Chart can be a game-changer for planning future sewing projects. ![Measurement chart](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/74e69928d28fd71f41fc5db66448a608.jpg) There you have it—just a few simple ways to get organized in the new year. Here’s to a fantastic sewing journey ahead! May 2016 bring you endless inspiration and creativity. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
