The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) has concluded that the U.S. industry is being significantly harmed by the importation of narrow-weave, ribbed webbing. This decision follows an investigation into the impact of these products on domestic manufacturers. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Commerce has determined that certain subsidized imports from China and Chinese Taipei will be subject to scrutiny, as they are being sold in the U.S. market at prices below fair value.
Committee members Charlotte R. Lane, Shara L. Aranoff, and Irving A. Williamson voted in favor of the determination. However, Commissioners Deanna Tanner Okun and Daniel R. Pearson cast negative votes. Chairman A. Pinkert supported the affirmative decision regarding China but issued a negative ruling concerning Taiwan.
As a result of the USITC’s affirmative findings, the Ministry of Commerce is expected to impose countervailing duties on goods imported from China and anti-dumping duties on products coming from both China and Chinese Taipei. These measures aim to offset the unfair pricing and subsidies that have negatively impacted U.S. producers.
The U.S. International Trade Commission emphasized that narrow-woven (flange) webbings from China and Taiwan have caused material injury to the domestic industry. This ruling highlights ongoing concerns about foreign competition and the need for protective trade measures to support American manufacturers.
