The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) has concluded that the U.S. industry is being significantly harmed by imports of narrow-weave woven (ribbed) webbing. This decision comes after an extensive investigation into the impact of these products on domestic manufacturers. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Commerce has determined that certain subsidized imports from China and Chinese Taipei will be subject to duties. These webbings are reportedly being sold in the U.S. market at prices below fair value, raising concerns about unfair competition. Committee members Charlotte R. Lane, Shara L. Aranoff, and Irving A. Williamson voted in favor of the findings. However, Commissioners Deanna Tanner Okun and Daniel R. Pearson cast negative votes. Chairman A. Pinkert supported the affirmative decision against China but ruled negatively against Taiwan. This split decision highlights the complexity of the case and the differing perspectives among the commissioners. As a result of the USITC’s affirmative determination, the Ministry of Commerce is expected to impose countervailing duties on imports from China and anti-dumping duties on goods from both China and Taiwan. These measures aim to protect domestic producers from what is perceived as unfair trade practices.
