In the south of France, there's a beautiful city called Nîmes, known as the birthplace of blue denim. In 1848, Levi Strauss from the United States brought this iconic blue dye to California, which eventually led to the creation of the famous Levi’s brand. The word "denim" comes from the French "de Nîmes," referring to the fabric's origin in Nîmes, while "jeans" is derived from the Italian "giaine."
In 1968, a former sailor named Ficher Mendès established a garment factory in Nîmes, specializing in workwear and using a lion and an iron anchor as its emblem.
