The total number of cotton inspections in the United States in 2010 reached 3.661 million tons
According to the latest report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), as of the week ending December 30, a total of 90,000 tons of cotton were graded in the United States. Out of this, 86,000 tons were upland cotton, with 71.5% meeting the ICE futures trading standards (grade SLM 1-1/16 or higher). Additionally, 4,000 tons of Pima cotton were graded during the same period.
By December 30, the cumulative cotton grading for the year reached 3.661 million tons. This includes 3.581 million tons of upland cotton, of which 65.1% met the ICE trading requirements, and 80,000 tons of Pima cotton.
Notably, inspections have been temporarily suspended in the Central South Cotton region and parts of the Southeastern Cotton Belt. Meanwhile, Texas has completed inspections totaling 1.567 million tons, reflecting its continued importance in the U.S. cotton industry.
These figures highlight the ongoing dynamics in the U.S. cotton market, with grading activities remaining active in key producing regions despite some operational pauses in others. The data also underscores the significance of quality standards in determining trade eligibility and market expectations.
