The 15th China Textile and Clothing Expo opens in Tokyo
The 15th China Textile and Clothing Fair kicked off on the 1st in Tokyo, Japan's capital, drawing over 242 Chinese clothing companies from 47 cities across the country. The event has captured significant attention from Japanese industry leaders and buyers, highlighting the growing importance of textile and apparel trade between the two nations.
Wang Wende, Vice President of the China Textile Industry Group, the event’s organizer, emphasized during a press conference that Chinese textile and clothing exports reach approximately $20 billion annually. He noted that the clothing sector has become a vital component of Sino-Japanese trade relations, with both countries benefiting from this dynamic exchange.
When discussing the current state of cooperation between Chinese and Japanese textile firms, Wang pointed out that the traditional model of "Japan's billing and production in China" remains prevalent. However, he acknowledged that this approach is no longer fully aligned with the evolving market demands of both countries. He explained that Chinese manufacturers are increasingly facing rising costs in labor, raw materials, and environmental compliance, which has led them to reassess their order selections. Additionally, the domestic Chinese market is now receiving more focus than ever before, prompting a shift in business strategies.
Wang expressed hope that both Chinese and Japanese companies will adapt to these changes by exploring new areas of collaboration and enhancing the depth of their partnerships. He believes that by doing so, they can better meet the needs of today’s fast-changing global market.
He also highlighted that Japan holds a strong position in fashion design, planning, technology, and talent development—areas where Chinese companies see great potential for growth. However, he noted that current levels of cooperation in these fields remain limited. The China Textile Industry Group is committed to using the platform of the China Textile and Apparel Fair to foster deeper ties between the two nations and support mutual market expansion.
The first China Textile and Apparel Fair was held in Osaka in December 2003, and since then, it has been held annually in both Osaka and Tokyo. Over the years, the fair has gained widespread recognition among industry professionals in both countries. Its reputation and influence have steadily grown, making it a key platform for networking, showcasing products, and building long-term business relationships in the textile and apparel sectors.
This year’s 15th edition of the fair is being held at the Sunshine City Ikebukuro Cultural Hall in Tokyo. The exhibition spans 6,000 square meters, featuring 294 booths—the largest exhibition ever held in Tokyo. With its expanded space and increased participation, the event continues to serve as a vital bridge between Chinese and Japanese textile industries.
