The 15th China Textile and Clothing Expo opens in Tokyo

The 15th China Textile and Apparel Fair kicked off on the 1st in Tokyo, Japan’s capital, drawing participation from 242 Chinese clothing companies across 47 cities. The event has generated significant interest among Japanese industry professionals, highlighting the growing importance of textile and apparel trade between the two nations. Wang Wende, Vice President of the China Textile Industry Group, the organizer of the fair, highlighted during a press conference that Chinese textile and clothing exports reach approximately $20 billion annually. He emphasized that the clothing sector has become a vital component of China-Japan bilateral trade, reflecting the deepening economic ties between the two countries. When discussing the current state of industry collaboration, Wang noted that the traditional model of "Japan's billing and production in China" remains prevalent among garment companies. However, he pointed out that this approach is no longer fully aligned with the evolving market demands in both countries. He explained that Chinese manufacturers are increasingly facing rising costs in labor, raw materials, and environmental compliance, which has led them to carefully select orders. Additionally, the domestic Chinese market is now receiving more attention as it continues to grow in size and influence. Wang expressed hope that both Chinese and Japanese companies will adapt to these changes by exploring new areas of cooperation and enhancing their partnership. He stressed the need for innovation and mutual growth in an ever-changing global landscape. He also pointed out that Japan holds a strong position in areas such as fashion design, planning, technology, and talent. However, the level of collaboration between the two countries in these fields remains limited. Wang stated that the China Textile Industry Group is committed to using the platform of the China Textile and Apparel Fair to further strengthen Sino-Japanese cooperation, supporting the development of both markets. The first China Textile and Apparel Fair was held in Osaka in December 2003, and since then, it has been held annually in both Osaka and Tokyo. Over the years, the event has gained widespread recognition from industry professionals in both countries. Its reputation and influence have continued to grow, making it a key platform for exchange and collaboration in the textile and apparel sectors. This year’s 15th edition of the fair is being held at the Sunshine City Ikebukuro Cultural Hall in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. With an exhibition area of 6,000 square meters and 294 booths, it marks the largest edition of the fair ever held in Tokyo. The event showcases a wide range of products and offers valuable opportunities for networking, business development, and cultural exchange between Chinese and Japanese participants.
