weekend links: an update
Hello everyone!
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to update you all on how things have been going since my recent joint kidney donation. First and foremost, I am thrilled to share that both my friend and I are recovering beautifully. I returned to Madrid last week and am feeling almost back to normal. My friend is also doing incredibly well at home, slowly regaining her strength after a few challenging weeks. The recovery process has been smoother than expected, and I am grateful to say that I can resume my exercise routine next week. It's such a relief to be able to move forward with this important step.
Our friend, who received the donated kidney, is also progressing steadily. While the initial weeks were tough due to complications from the anti-rejection medications, she is now happily settled back at home and improving daily. Her new kidney is functioning better than my remaining one, which is still performing admirably. She recently mentioned how much better she feels overall, which is truly heartwarming. Of course, managing the side effects of the medication remains a challenge, but she's handling it with grace. The support system around her has been incredible, and we're all thrilled with how things are turning out.
It was definitely an unforgettable experience to go through the surgery together. The photo of us both in our matching surgical gowns was captured by our friend Todd, though we've agreed never to share it publicly. That small moment of levity made the whole ordeal feel a bit lighter.
Thank you all for your kind words and messages during this time. Your encouragement meant the world to us. I'm excited to dive back into my projects and responsibilities, including working on the upcoming Liesl + Co. fall collection. I promise to keep checking in regularly.
In the meantime, I’ve been indulging in some leisurely activities and discoveries. For instance, I found this delightful Pinterest post featuring a stunning embellished piece. Each bead and sequin is meticulously triple-stitched, creating a masterpiece. It’s inspiring how intricate details can elevate something so simple.

Speaking of creativity, I’ve been itching to get started on my white linen Cinema Dress. It’s designed with pintucks and entredeux, adding layers of elegance. Hopefully, I’ll find the time soon because seeing this photo makes me want to sew it immediately.

On the food front, my sister and I tried making vegan fudge popsicles recently. They turned out delicious! In fact, I couldn’t resist having one for breakfast yesterday—it was that good.

While visiting Marrakech before heading to New York, we had an unforgettable experience exploring the vibrant city. One highlight was the Yves Saint Laurent museum at Jardin Majorelle, showcasing Berber culture and its exquisite costumes. The textures and details are mesmerizing, especially the jewelry and head coverings. Clearly, Saint Laurent drew immense inspiration from this rich heritage.

Speaking of head coverings, this Sikh turban caught my eye. It’s absolutely stunning, though I can’t help worrying about the weight—it must put quite a strain on the wearer.

For those looking for some weekend reads, here are a few interesting articles I came across:
- A charming series of astronaut photos capturing the innocence of childhood.
- My friends at McCall’s were featured in the New York Times this week. They produce Lisette for Butterick patterns, so it’s always exciting to collaborate with such a talented team.
- The concept of growing leather from Alexander McQueen’s skin for accessories might sound unsettling, but knowing his quirky humor, it fits perfectly. Imagine the possibilities—lab-grown leather for sustainable fashion!
- Repurposed graffiti with clean, modern design elements made me smile.
- There’s a lovely profile of me in the latest Sew News magazine.
- I admire how Queen Letizia blends high-end and affordable pieces in her wardrobe, proving that style doesn’t have to break the bank. Other style icons like Michelle Obama and Kate Middleton also inspire with their timeless approach.
- Hospitalized children hunting for Waldo in construction sites outside their windows—it’s such a sweet initiative!
- While in New York, I visited the Manus x Machina exhibit at the Met. It was extraordinary, and I wish I’d bought the catalog for its detailed photographs.

Lastly, if you've scrolled all the way down, here’s a special offer for you. Craftsy is offering 50% off their newest classes this weekend (August 5-7, 2016). There are even some apparel sewing classes available. Check out the details [here](#).
That’s all for now. I’ll try to keep you updated as I continue working on the fall collection. Wishing you all a wonderful end to summer!
Take care,
